Description
What are Mabe pearls ?
Mabe pearls, also known as blister pearls, are a unique and captivating type of cultured pearl that distinguish themselves through their hemispherical shape and stunning luster. Unlike traditional round pearls that form within the soft tissue of a mollusk, Mabe pearls develop against the inner shell of the host mollusk, resulting in their distinctive flat back and domed top. This formation process begins when a nucleus is affixed to the inner shell, and over time, layers of nacre are secreted around it, eventually creating the characteristic Mabe pearl.
These pearls are particularly valued for their smooth surface and radiant sheen, often displaying a beautiful array of colors including white, pink, blue, and green. Mabe pearls are typically larger than their fully round counterparts, making them ideal for use in eye-catching jewelry pieces such as earrings, pendants, and brooches. Their unique shape allows for creative and innovative designs that can appeal to a wide range of aesthetic preferences.
